Laura Nathanson is executive vice president, revenue and operations, Disney Advertising Sales. In this role, she leads the optimization and manages business opportunities across the Company’s portfolio of entertainment and sports networks, to provide marketers with increased scale as viewing behaviors evolve.
Previously as executive vice president, client and audience solutions, Disney Advertising Sales, Nathanson led the data and systems initiative to enable strategic decision-making across the company’s global entertainment, news and kids and family linear and digital TV and radio businesses, including ABC Entertainment, ABC Daytime, ABC News, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Radio Disney and Freeform. As the industry shifts away from selling linear TV through broad research information, Nathanson’s team was tasked with creating audience based selling solutions to bring to market across the full Disney media portfolio. In the face of seismic changes in the advertising and television industries, the audience solutions team is working to unify multiple systems and data streams to enhance the company’s advertising revenue opportunities.
Nathanson has spent more than thirty years in the media field working for several industry leaders including, BBDO, Grey Advertising, NBC, Fox Broadcasting in its infancy, as well as Disney for the last twenty years. Throughout her career, she has developed extensive knowledge in the media and advertising sales world, moving into leadership roles and driving sales revenue. She has represented clients on the agency side in the automotive, packaged goods and movie studio and covered every major advertising category on the sales side. She has an extensive network that is both broad and deep across the media spectrum, including advertisers, agency buyers, researchers and data/tech specialists.
Ms. Nathanson enjoys the excitement and challenges in emerging businesses. Recognizing the opportunity in a 4th Broadcast network, she moved to national sales at Fox Broadcasting in its early days. She led Fox’s first digital sales team well before television companies were selling digitally. Her team helped design and sell custom content to advertisers before Wi-Fi or fast Internet was available. Additionally, in 2006, before Millennials were embraced in the vernacular or known to the marketing community, Ms. Nathanson was instrumental in creating a partnership with ABC Family and Frank Magid Research focusing on the rise and power of Millennials on every aspect of culture, family and society. The ABC Sales team was first to market, selling advertisers on the importance in reaching this core audience. During her tenure as head of sales at ABC Family, Ms. Nathanson embraced the digital world and cross-trained her sales team to sell both linear and digital media generating a new revenue source for the company.
Ms. Nathanson is passionate about training and guiding teams. She ran Disney’s ABC Family sales team for fourteen years throughout a tumultuous period of reorganizations increasing sales revenue 8x. Her productive and collaborative management style allowed her to build a highly productive, stable and loyal team.
Ms. Nathanson received a BA from Wesleyan University. She is an avid reader, loves playing golf and practicing yoga. She served on the board of The Whitby School in Greenwich Ct and has just joined the board of Madison Playgroup in Manhattan. She is married and has two grown children.
